Literary Note

'rather thin time for me and Jem'

This line is an example of forshadowing, alluding to something that will happen later on in the novel; in this case Haper Lee is forshadowing the trial. The trial is an important time for Jem and Scout and forces them to overcome many different challenges. By using the phrase 'rather thin time' she is understating the importance of the trial and the events sourrounding it; as well as their effect on the siblings.
