Literary Note

“His name’s Tom Robinson”

This is a reference to Tom Robinson and the theme of racism. Up until this point Scout has never known Tom Robinsons name, just that Atticus was defending a Negro, by stating simply ‘his name’s Tom Robinson’ Harper Lee is showing us that he is a human being just like us. He stops being just another Negro and becomes a person with a family that we can relate to.
